Pink rhodochrosite (manganese carbonate, MnCO3) surrounding colourless, well-formed crystals of quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO2). The well-developed crystal shapes in this sample indicate that the minerals grew freely in a cavity, in this case probably crystallising from a warm (‘hydrothermal’) fluid. (Specimen approximately 10cm in size).
