View through a skylight into an active lava tube at. Hot, low-viscosity basaltic lava, while readily forming a stationary, solidified crust on the surface of a flow where it can loose heat rapidly to the atmosphere, often continues to flow in the interior of a pahoehoe lava flow. Such lava tubes are common in Hawaii, and in places where the solidified roof collapses to form a skylight , as in this image, one is given a spectacular glimpse down into the rapidly flowing incandescent lava stream below.
